Executive Staff
Geetanjali Misra, Co-founder and Executive Director.
Geetanjali has worked at the activist, grant making and policy levels on issues of human rights, gender, sexuality and reproductive health and violence against women. Before joining CREA, she was the Sexuality and Reproductive Health Program Officer at the Ford Foundation. She is the co-founder of SAKHI for South Asian women in New York, a non-profit organization committed to ending violence against women of South Asian origin. She is on the Board of Directors of Reproductive Health Matters, Women's Initiatives for Gender Justice, Women's Dignity Project and Mama Cash, and was President of the Association for Women's Rights in Development (AWID) from 2006 - 2008. She has co-edited Sexuality, Gender and Rights: Exploring Theory and Practice in South and South East Asia (2005).
Aditi Gogia, Executive Assistance.
At CREA, she assists the Executive Director in addition to providing administrative support. Prior to joining CREA, Aditi was working as an Executive Assistant to the Team Leader (Adolescent Cell) in UNFPA. Aditi has a Masters degree in Commerce with specialization in Accountancy.
Program Staff
Ayesha Mago, Director, Information, Education and Communications.
Ayesha works at CREA on planning and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy with a view to increasing public awareness of the organisation and being an advocate for CREA's various programs. She works on donor relations and will act as a representative for CREA in specific international and national fora. She will also be working on the girls and sports program which is currently being developed. She has worked in the human rights field since 1994 starting as an activist working on civil and political rights including state accountability for excesses in insurgency areas and refugee rights. In recent years she has consulted for various organisations including CREA, UNICEF and the IPPF on issues of gender, violence, sexuality and rights and child trafficking. Her last job was in media and sports, specifically dealing with the CSR program planning for English Football clubs in India. Ayesha holds a Masters Degree in human rights
and humanitarian affairs from Columbia University in New York.
Shalini Singh, Program Manager, Grassroots Feminist Leadership.
At CREA, she coordinates various aspects of the Grassroots Feminists Leadership Program, including managing the capacity building program with 15 community based organizations, coordinating the Human Rights Institute, designing and planning training on gender and sexuality, and developing publications in Hindi. Shalini is a trained counsellor, with a background in social sciences and law. Her previous work experience encompassed counselling, training on laws, and gender and human rights. Before joining CREA, she worked with Sakshi on Violence against women cases and then served as Assistant Director of the Women's Justice Initiative, a program of the Human Rights Law Network, New Delhi. Shalini is a Law graduate with a Masters degree in Psychology.
Sunita Kujur, Director, Feminist Leadership and Movements.
Sunita has worked for fourteen years on issues of sexuality, gender, health and women's and human rights. At CREA, her work has involved strengthening feminist leadership, organizations and movements in South and Central Asia and East Africa; national advocacy on Section 377 of the Indian Penal Code; and advocacy on sexual rights at the Human Rights Council. Her previous work has involved telephone counselling on sexuality issues, bringing out publications on sexuality for young people, sexuality training and developing and implementing community based sexual and reproductive health projects for women and adolescent girls. Sunita is a part of the women's and sexual rights movements in India. Sunita has received a Masters degree in Social Work from the University of Delhi.
S. Vinita, Director, Feminist Leadership and Movements.
Vinita's work within CREA focuses on building feminist leadership among grassroots women's rights organizations; and managing a three year multi-pronged program that works towards ending violence against marginalized women in three countries in South Asia. She is fascinated with the ways in which language can be used to empower or discriminate women and is working on building scholarship in Hindi on sexuality, gender and rights. Vinita is trained in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work but left that world to actively work within the human rights field. She has worked on issues of sexuality, gender and rights. Previously, she was working with CARE India as a Field Officer in a project on sex workers' rights and HIV/AIDS. Vinita holds a Masters degree in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai
Sarah Joseph Kurien, Program Assistant.
Sarah joined CREA in November 2010 as a Program Assistant, and will be working primarily with CREA in New York. She is interested in exploring the use of traditional and new media to transform thinking and influence change. Prior to joining CREA, Sarah worked with Point of View, Mumbai, archiving alternate documentary video footage on the pad.ma public access digital media archive, and developing content for Point of View's Pyaar Plus website; for Visual Voices, a documentary resource manual for HIV/AIDS peer educators; and for the Zist Tarashi: Sculpting Lives photography exhibit. Sarah has a Bachelors degree in French Studies from Colby College in Waterville, Maine.
Kalpana Khare, Program Coordinator, Grassroots Feminist Leadership.
Before joining CREA in May 2008, Kalpana was one of our first Ibtida members. Kalpana has 20 years' experience in working on violence against women and women's health issues. She is currently based in Mahoba, Uttar Pradesh and works closely with the capacity-building program for community based groups (Ibtida program) based in Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Bihar on women's human rights issues. Her work includes extensive travel to all Ibtida members in the four states and documenting their work experiences and ensuring effective reporting of the program. Kalpana has done her Masters degree in Hindi and is presently pursuing a Masters in Social Work.
Sanjana Gaind, Program Coordinator, Campaigns and Events.
At CREA, she coordinates the Count Me In: Campaign With Me component that builds awareness and understanding on the harmful manifestations of son preference that lead to violence against women. Sanjana also works on the public education program of CREA. Prior to joining CREA, she has worked on HIV and AIDS, reproductive and sexual health issues and on rights of women in sex work. Her work on these issues has focused on developing communication and training resources and applying art forms like films and theatre for awareness, advocacy and action. Sanjana holds a Master's Degree in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
Meenu Pandey, Program Coordinator, Knowledge and Scholarship.
At CREA, Meenu works across programs (on trainings, research and policy advocacy) to specifically include LGBT rights. She has worked on issues of social change since 2005 in the capacities of a researcher, a counsellor, a translator and an activist. Her work has included counseling, research studies, advocacy, trainings and translations in the areas of gender, health, sexuality and education. Meenu holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai.
Chaitali Bhatia, Program Coordinator, Information and Communications.
She is responsible for overall information and communications needs of the organization which includes : managing CREA website, increasing web and public outreach of CREA, assist in production, dissemination and monitoring of CREA's publications and other resources and support in fundraising. Prior to CREA she worked on reproductive and sexual health issues with women and adolescent girls at Swaasthya, a Delhi based organisation and Parivar Seva Sanstha, a national level NGO. Chaitali is a postgraduate in Social Work from the Bharati Vidyapeeth University, Pune.
Debolina Dutta, Program Coordinator, Advocacy and Research.
At CREA, as the Program Coordinator, Research and Advocacy, she coordinates the Count Me In! research project; and advocacy on sexual rights at the Human Rights Council in Geneva. Previously, she has worked as a human rights researcher and trainer on several projects; been closely associated with the sex workers movement in Kolkata for over 8 years and has done research and legal trainings with them. She has been a recipient of the CRY National Child Rights Fellowship, Film Fellowship from the Public Service Broadcasting Trust and the Open Space Fellowship. She has also written on issues of gender, sexuality and the law in journalistic and academic publications. She is co-director of 'Are We Talking Straight?' (2009), a film on homophobia in Kolkata and 'We are Foot Soldiers' (2011), a film on the collectivization of children of sex workers in Sonagachi. Debolina is a lawyer by training and has completed the Research Training Programme from the Centre for Studies in Social
Sciences, Kolkata.
Finance and Operations Staff
Diksha Dubey, Director, Finance and Operations.
At CREA, she heads the Finance and Operations teams. She is responsible for the financial coordination for the entire organization and oversees operations. Her responsibilities include developing CREA's annual budget, tracking program expenditures against approved budgets, investments, implementation of financial policies and managing the annual audits. She also oversees the operations of the entire organization. Diksha comes to CREA with six years of experience in administrative and financial coordination working with international reproductive health NGO, such as INTRAHealth International Inc. Diksha holds a Masters degree in Commerce and in Business Administration with specialization in Finance.
Rambishnu Sasmal, Manager, Finance and Operations.
Ram's main responsibilities at CREA are to manage accounts, prepare budgets and balance sheets, make reports for donors, taxation related work, etc. Before joining CREA, he worked with Partners for Law in Development. Ram holds Masters degrees in Commerce and in Business Administration with specialization in Finance. He also holds a Diploma in Financial Accounting System (DFAS). Ram is specialized in financial management in the development sector.
Mary Reinke, Accountant.
Mary is positioned in New York and assists CREA's external accounting firm, Baum & Baum, in preparing CREA's financial statements, bank reconciliation statement, and all finance related work in our New York office.
Administrative Staff
Lukas, Office Assistant.
Lukas assists with office administration and dissemination of CREA publications. Before joining CREA he studied English typing. He is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Arts from the University of Delhi and developing his computer skills.
Dulal Das, Housekeeper.
Dulal handles housekeeping and general office maintenance.

Sushma Luthra, Logistics Coordinator, Institutes and Events.
Sushma has been associated with CREA for over 3 years and works with specific CREA program staff, Executive Director and Director Finance and Operations to coordinate all logistics for CREA institutes, workshops, events and meetings.
